Did America just wake up ?
Watching the Democratic Convention last night I re-examined my anti-Americanism. Usually consumed by the arrogance of power & unable to differentiate between what educator SA O'Neill distinguished as Freedom Not License, the US often believes they are 'free' to do what they want to whomever they want. The neo-con nightmare first arose out of right wing losses in WW2, but the revival of neo-fascism in the US was endorsed in the last two elections & echoed in Canada; small-minded, mean-spirited, cold-hearted corporate capitalism, gulag republicanism & heretical fundamentalist Christianity may now be history. Somebody say amen.

Harper should Resign
Precedent is to be found in British Commons and earlier Canadian parliamentary practice. If a PM can't win support for himself or his cabinet in a divided House,he goes to the governor general, surrenders parliament and the GG asks someone else in the house to attempt to form a cabinet-ie. government. Harper can't break his own four year term law without turning his law and order mask inside out, but he desperately needs to drop a general election writ so he can shut down the Green Party in Guelph, who along with the electorate in this city are about to humiliate his acolyte Gloria Kovach. Harper knows the Reform Party started with a by-election win followed by 52 seats in the general election that followed that win. He's afraid his Oil and Eastern banker-backed Regressive Conservative Republicans will become as fossilized as their fuel source once he stands onstage against Elizabeth May, Dion, Layton and the Bloc in a televised debate, he'll look lke the Bush League dogsbody he is. He thinks that by dropping the writ and breaking the new law the by-election will have to be extended to a date beyond the length of Green purse strings. Most Canadians voted against Harper and his right to form a government in the last election. He made the law, old parliamentary practice will ensure the continuity of the elected House. Resign Stephen. Now.

Harper 's Mandate ?
What mandate ? The majority of the electorate voted against him last time and they will again. Don't you Conservatives get it, we think he's a weasel. He says he's done more in three years than anyone could have. Absolutely, he's turned Canada from being a respected world speaker into a mascot for the international Bush League. That's called followership not leadership, and you can climb into the handbasket again with him all you want, because we're not catching the hell bound train with you or him or your republican advisors.

Tough on Crime
It's time for Canadians to get tough on crime and insist that if Americans demand the right to place themselves beyond the reach of international law, then they need to vigorously enforce their own constitution. Bush and Cheney are criminals by all standards, petty and profound, and if Americans don't deal with them then the rest of the world must.
Harper - Leadership ?
So, our Bush League cheerleader PM is campaigning on his leadership abilities ! Steve-o is neck and neck with George W in the race to become the last man on the planet to notice the environmental disaster heading our way. His leadership style is that of a one man policy wonk who works solely for the interests of corporate Canada, that most treasonous and treacherous of all sectors of the political economy: he's a republican conservative who helped destroy genuine Canadian conservativism, and his only international ally is on his way to disgrace and impeachment for his many crimes against humanity. Harper is just one more phony law and order con man who works for some of the most highly organized criminals on the planet. The majority of Canadians voted against him last time, and they will again.
