David and Goliath
There can be no doubt that in its treatment of the Palestinian people - not Hamas, not Hezbollah, but the people of Palestine - Israel is Goliath and David is Palestine.
Jubilee politics need to be practiced in Israel-Palestine, sanctuary politics, and the spiritual depths need to be inhabited by Israelis, before the battered and abused people of Palestine can ever hope to move away from the options offered by Palestinian gangsters. That is the flaw of a long occupation, the victims lose everything but a willingness to be led by individuals hard enough to engage in endless vendetta. And when the people become reliant on gangsters, they become twice doomed.

Harper - the self-lamed Duck PM
The master of the self-inflicted wound will waddle into 2009 and stumble around in his self-delusion for a few more months before the Canadian people will finally put him out of his misery and consign him to a footnote in history and his party to an internecine deconstruction process in which the reactionary Harrisite-Harpercons will be sheered off into the abyss of eternal damnation. Somebody say amen.

Flaherty says 'deficits short term'
But since everything else he has said has been untrue, short term deficits must also be a lie. That's how Harpercon Harrisite-speak works, the common sense revolution was a lack of common sense reaction, Harper's four year term wasn't, no deficits means deficits. You get the idea. It happens when you think that the truest thing on earth is that you won a mandate from all Canadians instead of less that 38%, twice in row, the lie becomes the truth and the truth becomes a lie.
Blue-Sweater Harper
I want to urge all Canadians to buy up blue sweaters and lob them at the PM whenever he comes to your neighbourhood. No shoes, no stones, no bricks, no heavy objects inside them, except the weight of our communal contempt. Blue-sweater the PM I say.

Senator Mike Duffy

It's those 21 new seats in Ontario
Big Blue Says spend Big, and ride Obama's coattails to victory next election, forget the conservative base, win Ontario and win the government. The only problem is Harper will be Harper, and he will destroy his Party with his lack of genuine foresight, when he will be seen to be an actual reactionary, unable to predict anything. His focus is on destroying his enemies, not blessing them. He will reap the malice he has sown. He will be harvested while over-reaching himself at the wrong time some day, sooner than later.
Resign
Harper and his finance minister - in fact - his whole cabinet - should resign for the depth of their deceit about the state of Canada's finances. Igantieff should form a full party, proportionally representative coalition cabinet - including a green, and any conservative progressives not tainted by having served as Harper's puppet.
Flaherty
Three months after ridiculing Dion for the idea, Harper's hand puppet Minister of Finance has been allowed to say that it is a good idea to create an economic advisory panel to help plan the government's response to the economic disaster. Harper, the master's student economist is finally starting to catch up to the Ph'd's who supported Dion's plans during the election. Harper: not a leader, never was, never will be.

Apply for a Senate Seat
I just emailed the Prime Minister's Office and applied for a job as a Canadian Senator. And just to show how fair minded a senator I would be be, I urge you all to email the PMO @ pm@pm.gc.ca and apply. May the best Canadians win.
Harper unprepared
It is now more than obvious that Harper's self-absorbtion is so complete that he had no idea what was going on in the economy, and now that the coalition jarred him out of his own "I'm the greatest PM who ever lived" narrative, he can suddenly see the darkness swallowing large portions of the population.
Monday, December 15, 2008
Harper blew it
He could have surfed Obama's wave forever, except for the fact that the only reason he is in politics is to destroy liberals, and failing that, he has failed to do anything in two and half years of power, which may stretch into three and a quarter years at best before his malice becomes apparent to all Canadians but his acolytes. At least Kim Campbell failed because Canadians wanted to get rid of Mulroneyism so badly that they didn't even care that he was gone and she was PM. Harper failed because of Harper.
Obama chooses Science
Harper and his sock puppet Jim Prentice the environment minister may be getting no love from global politicians and environmental activists but Obama doesn't take his lead from Harper, and is actually planning on developing an environmental economy.

It's not just me who thinks so but
Harper has eyes like Homolka, there's something dead moving in them.
Harper, leadership
hunched over the steering wheel while creeping along in a broken gas guzzler on a dark road without passing lanes.
"blocking progress"
building walls at home and abroad. Harper, leadership so solid you have to slow down to stop from running into it.
Harper just can't keep a promise
Now it's former staffers fast tracking themselves into careers as government lobbyists.
The stench began the first week Harper took over two and a half years ago. Everything he does violates his own pronouncements.

Harpercons v May at Climate Change
Jim Prentice, the Minister for Doing Nothing About the Environment, doesn't want Elizabeth May telling the world he's there to do nothing, too bad. That is why Harper sent him.

Christian Con
Christianity is about taking responsibility for one's own actions, apparently fundamentalist Christianity is about blaming others. Only one of them is real Christianity.
Cons as pretend Libs
Just about every voice of every Liberal you hear complaining about the way Ignatieff came to lead the party will be just one more piece of the great Conservative Con. Almost every comment on every blog, almost every comment on every letter to the editor, almost every comment on every phone-in show will actually belong to a conservative pretending to be a disgruntled Liberal. And all these lies, all this conning of the Canadian public, is going to slowly but surely find it's way back to Harper and the Harrisite thugs who surround him. They will reap the whirlwind. "Mendacity, mendacity, I'm surrounded by mendacity !" as Burl Ives bellowed in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Harper charted a course of lie upon lie, and the only place it will lead him is to the home of the Father of Lies.
Corporate Welfare Bums
$13,639 worth per Canadian citizen. That's almost as much as I earned last year. Give the poor the money, it would be better spent, because the poor, unlike the rich, spend their money, not squirrel it away, stimulating local economies as they spend. Instead we subsidize the rich, and we get less bang for the buck. Free enterprise now ! End corporatism.
Where did Canadian Conservativism Go
Is there not a single conservative politician or supporter in this country willing to stand up for the realities of parliamentary democracy in Canada ? Not one who understands or is willing to defend the House, have you all become so partisan that you're willing to go on lying about who the 308 people we elect actually are ?
Only Tories elected last election
Apparently no one else among the majority of parliamentarians were elected, only Tories. Don't you just love Conservative reformers and all their lies about how they were going to change democracy in Canada. I actually thought they meant for the better until the first week Harper took office two and a half years ago, and then I realized he was just another Mulroney-cronyism political hack meister.

Charest wins majority of seats
But majority of Quebec voters lose because the system remains broken.
Dion goes as he came
He came with dignity, he goes with dignity.
Harper on the other hand will break as much of Canada as he can before he's forced from the scene. His days are numbered.
Harper on the other hand will break as much of Canada as he can before he's forced from the scene. His days are numbered.
Pathological Harpercons posing as Liberals
If there were as many liberal party members as there are supposed liberals writing letters to the editors, calling radio shows and otherwise indicating their disgust for the coalition - as Liberals - the party would never have lost the election in the first place. Sorry, but the pathological nature of the Harpercons has set new records for deceit that can only be compared to the Bush League at the height of its lies to the American people. They have poisoned public discourse in this country. I had a woman named Rhoda send me a whole series of emails, except when I continually commented that her remarks showed that she was not and never had been a liberal she finally stopped writing me.
In and Out Will be the Last Nail
Once the results of Elections Canada's investigation into the In and Out Adscam are completed they will drive the nail through Harper's vampire heart and seal the coffin of his credibility for good. Reaping and sowing.
Harper to Reap the Whirlwind
With Dion poised to fall on his own sword, the man who led the campaign to character assassinate him is about to reap the malice sown for the last two and half years. It's one of those spiritual laws that fundamentalists always fail to understand because they think they alone know what it is to be on God's side. Mr. Harper has born false witness and he will reap the consequences of that, Mr. Harper has sown contempt for common decency and he will reap the consequences of that, Mr. Harper has built dividing walls and will discover himself set aside in history to occupy his own special category of failure, Mr. Harper has lied in the name of truth and will be known for that throughout time. Mr. Harper has made his bed in the Canadian political consciousness and he will lay there in it for all time. Mr. Harper has created his own doom, and once Dion steps aside, it will descend on Harper like the furies of old Greece. Malice aforethought, come home to roost in his memory for the rest of his life, power will slip away, and though he lacks the emotional intelligence to acknowledge his role, the denied reality that it was his own fault will crystalize on his death bed, and he will know as he dies that he did this to himself. Maybe then, he will choose to avoid a worse fate in eternity.

Relying on the GG is BAD IDEA
It has finally dawned on me that all these coalition plans come down to what the GG might do if the coalition drops the government in Jan. It is therefor now obvious to me that since she lacked the courage to 1) say no to prorogueing parliament, when she could have easily have said yes, if only to defend parliamentary democracy in Canada from the lies that Harper and his ministers spread about the nature of the Westminster system of government, and that she even lacked the courage to 2) have acted (if only in her own counsel) on behalf of Haitian democracy by taking down Harper for his role in helping George Bush destroy democracy in Haiti, (despite the fact that she spent time down there between hurricane devastations last fall when it must have become even more obvious to her that the Bush-Harper installed junta was not in the least bit interested in helping the poor) then what kind of courage is she going to have in January ? None whatsoever. She allowed Harper to run and hide from the coalition, next time she'll let him destroy it. No, the GG cannot be relied on, even if the coalition wins the PR battle. The coalition has to swallow the budget, and then pass a private member's bill that creates a legal framework for creating stable coalition cabinets to meet the requirement of fulfilling the four year fixed term law, and only then can they destroy Harper like the mad dog he is.
Big Business not in favour
Well duh, they have a neo-corporatist PM, who wants to privatize - ie corporatize - every commodity in Canada, why wouldn't they support privateering ? Like Harper, they have no conscience to bind them to anything but their bottom lines.

Have the Cons lies about the nature of Canadian
democracy damaged our democracy ? Is the Prime Minister's willingness to defend the Tories right to rule without the confidence of the House as if he was a President and not a PM - as if he actually won a majority of Canadian votes instead of a minority, as if he won the majority of seats and not a minority - has his attack on the very nature of parliamentary democracy through his misinformation campaign done irreparable harm to the Canadian system ? Clearly many Canadians think we are a republic, that a Prime Minister is just another name for President.

Proportional Representation in Cabinet
I'm kind of with David Graham on Prop Rep, it's clumsy, and not as democratic as it sounds. Not sure what he thinks otherwise but I think it would work in cabinet. In the olden days the cabinet was the government, not the party in power, because the cabinet originated in the King's (and Queen's) Council. Their power came from the Crown.
In a Charter country like Canada, where the people have become the crown, it would make sense for us to have Proportional Representation in the cabinet (and parliamentary committees.) It would be the least expensive option, the simplest to understand, the easiest to bring about, the most effective application and the most constitutionally sound custom to follow.

Bloc-PC-Alliance Coalition Considered
The PC's who created the Bloc via Mulroney and Bouchard, and Stock Day's Reform-Alliance were also once keen on a coalition, back when Harper was telling American businessmen that the Alliance, of which he was a founding member, was the ideological equivalent of conservative republicanism.
A comment I posted at Warren Kinsella's blog
Which may be too large, but which I wanted to say here too.
"Tulk, you're just wrong, period.
Alberta is a one party state run by American Oil companies which is why your guy thinks Canada is a republic.
Your Ontario voters are a bunch of old people who vote in large numbers but who you frightened and conned twice now, most of them are the dying bastion of Harrisite Levelers who have no moral position on waging war on the poor and on the working poor in order to preserve their middle class privileges; they're all dying to live in the protectorate of Tar Sands Canada Inc.
You are the dinosaurs of the fossil fuel age. Our grass roots will grow through the bones of your toxic-death society. This is the Quiet Revolution version 2.0, only instead of Duplessis' Unione Nationale, the same coalition that toppled him is now toppling the Meighen-streak Ontario Tories and the Western Block neo-corporatists (who the Progressive Conservatives could not keep buried in their right wing past.) The restoration cons gave us the blunders of Reaganomics and Mulroney-croneyism; now we have the last stand of the Bush League-Harperistas and their allies among the Lack of Common Sense Reactionaries.
Sorry you hate this Warren, but the only option available to the coalition which would strengthen and broaden this evolutionary transformation, would to bring Red Tories into the coalition cabinet and so isolate the Con's extreme right wing. The cancerous coalition of Western Block oiligarchs and Meighen-Streak Tories must be removed, it must be put into a mica chip Joel-style and must be sent into the sun to be the vapourized. This must be done. It will be done.
Of course, Harper the Great Strategian, already thought Coalition government through to his own ends, and created a contingency plan for such an eventuality. It's why he gave the Americans the right to invade Canada. He broke his own 4 year term law, after creating a dysfunctional parliament, and after weakening Dion through 2 years of character assassination, assumed that his efforts to unite the social democrats in the NDP and Bloc would lead all tghree to an August Coalition so that George Bush could have invaded to save Canada from separatiste socialists and thus shore up Harper's oily junta. The Libs, the Bloc and NDP didn't do what they were supposed to do then, and they aren't doing it now. If it had been him in opposition with a dysfunctional Prime Minister he would have acted in August. The only problem for Harper now, is that Bush is the lamest president in the history of America: Obama won't do what George would have done for a man who is neither his friend nor a genuine ally.
Warren, Sorry for the length, spent two hours today watching my father fight for each and every breath he took for two hours after the doctors removed a tube from his lungs, while I had to listen to some Harrisite in the bed beside us who sounded like Mulroney and was as smug as Harper so I just had to get all this off my chest before it breaks my heart.
PS.If CD Howe Liberals betray the diggers - the underclasses and the working class - they will betray Mackenzie King's legacy and leave the oiligarchy and the Meighen Streak neo-corporatists in power, Harper will have succeeded in turning Canada to the right. And then the right will be consumed by the green movement and our grass roots will grow through their bones until the last of the calcium in them joins in the great celebration that is mutually beneficial life on Earth.
Footnote: The Harrisites should never have degraded nurses the way they did.
Thanks to every one of them at Southlake and elsewhere. Thanks for jump starting my old Dad again so he can go and home watch the evolution on TV before he joins that celebration."

How else do four year terms make sense ?
It's the only way to make four year terms work, a party loses the confidence of the house, they lose, but the house remains functional. The King is dead, long live the King. Harper was always the dysfunctional part of the equation, a man who did not know how to cooperate.

Dion rises from the Ashes
Think about it: Dion and Duceppe have fought hard battles against one another, but during the leadership debate in English when Dion said he was a member of the Quebec nation Duceppe did a double take and took greater measure of the man, and then they sat on stage today, and both stated clearly that they still disagreed about Quebec's place in Canada, and that their deal did not deal with that issue, but rather with what the Bloc was willing to do, which was to support an environmentally intelligent economic approach to crisis solving from within a social and liberal democratic context. The NDP did the same, which after all, is what Rae is all about, the charter of rights is a liberalizing influence within the sphere of social justice and democratic reform and Jack Layton finally lost himself long enough to serve the greater good under Dion. Dion was supposed to be down and out in his own party. And yet, he just pulled them back into power inside the box by thinking in larger terms outside the box. Does anyone really think Liberals will hold it against him for losing the last battle and winning the war against Harrisite-Harperistas ? Berated and humiliated and savaged by Harper and the right wing media Dion re-emerged today as victor by hard work and honest intention in front of the entire press corps - the vast majority of whom - behaved as if something new under the sun was taking place in front of them. And when Dion said he would willingly bow out of the leadership in May and live the country with a sound government he was deeply moved and so were the people in the room and so will be most Canadians once they've watched the footage. Dion did not sacrifice liberalism, but every hurdle was removed, every obstacle overcome, every dignity preserved. And, as a bonus, Dion knows that Harper knows that Harper defeated himself, defeated the already fragmenting coalition that was Reform-Alliance-PC. And that must taste sweet to Stephane Dion.
Dion stays for coalition.
Stephane Dion may get to be PM yet, and he does so, with the support of his party and the other coalition members and supporters.
The plan is a 30 billion dollar stimulus package.
The plan is a 30 billion dollar stimulus package.
Bloc NDP talks
So the NDP and the Bloc have been discussing common ground for coalition government previously, and the Tories think it's a conspiracy, perhaps the talks Layton referred to on the stolen tape took place when the two parties met with Stephen Harper to discuss forming a coalition in the dying days of Martin's last government. What a non-issue. Coalition government is not anti-democratic.

Conservative counter attack
The Tory talking point express will soon hit the airwaves and print media in a counter-offensive. These are the facts, the coalition with Bloc support represent 56 or so % of the electorate to the Tories 37.6%. And since every Green I've spoken to will be glad to see the end of Harper the % is closer to 62. That is a mandate in itself much more potent than Harper's phony mandate to govern as if he was supported by the majority of Canadians. The coalition will represent the majority in ways Harper never - ever - will. Canada was created by a coalition government cobbled together by Sir John A, it was called the Liberal-Conservative (not Reform-Conservative as Harper once argued).
The Cons lied about everything in the last election and now they want to hold Dion to account for ruling out a coalition with Layton. They ask what this will do to the economy ? This isn't going to anything to the economy except improve it, since the Tories have been lying about the economy since last summer and don't want the coalition to see how badly they have been lying. This Con government is the last stand of fascism in Canada, that's why this is a revolution. Let them spew the same line all over Canadian airwaves and throughout the print media. Harper blew it, and the Con is over.

How the Day of the Coalition has Evolved
An early overview here, who knows who it was spun by and why, but seemingly informative.
CTV Experts
Former perts acting as talking heads for the Conservative T V network throw water on coalition talks and, on cue, poo poo its survival. Right wing media falling down/ falling down/ right wing media falling down/ my fair lady-o.
Condogs howl
The Condogs are howling. and because they know so little about Canadian or British constitutional history, they think that a coalition defeating a government is an affront to democracy. It's not it's as old as parliament.
The Coalition speaks
“In light of the government’s failure to recognize the seriousness of Canada’s economic situation and its failure in particular to present any credible plan to stimulate the Canadian economy and to help workers and businesses in hard-pressed sectors such as manufacturing, the automotive industry and forestry, this House has lost confidence in this government and is of the opinion that a viable alternative government can be formed within the present House of Commons.”
The Bloc and Us
In the election, Duceppe told the country that he was willing to work with an environmentally focused coalition because it would be good for Quebec. Unlike Harper Duceppe appears to be a man of his word, some things matter more than politics, like the economic-ecological disaster we're sliding towards while Harper plays power games.
The Cons may have 143 seats
but the Coalition represents a portending 44.44% of the popular vote, and if even one Green was appointed to Cabinet most Greens will believe the Coalition represents 51.22% of the electorate if not of parliamentary seats. The House would have to be kept out of the hands of the Tories with the help of the Bloc who represent 9.98% of the Canadian electorate and 49 seats, so that the coalition, supported by the Bloc and with one Green would represent over 61.2% of the electorate and have the majority support of 155 parliamentarians. Without an appointed Green, but with the support of the Bloc they would still represent 54.42% of the electorate and still have more than 60% of the goodwill of the nation. The Coalition could be further strengthened with a progressive Conservative Cabinet member or two to represent voters in the centre right.
Tories cave
Dilbert Harper and Lack of Common Sense Flaherty have backed down on gutting the other parties, I say drop the government anyway over the ridiculous do nothing financial update.
Thursday, November 27, 2008
The Stunned One
our PM has so little idea of what he's doing, so little understanding of how little Canadians like or respect him, so lacking in anything resembling a master plan that only disciples like Christian Cons might think he actually has one. Stephen Dilbert Harper deserves to fall into disgrace.
Somebody say amen.
Somebody say amen.
Drop this government like a stone
and let Harper disappear into history. Defeat the bill, form the coalition and take it to the GG and dump these neo-corporatist right wing fanatics forever.
Tory's pretend to democratic Reform
Harper and his Mike Harris goonboy finance minister Flaherty just love pretending to be egalitarian reformers, while continuously working to make Canada a better place for Tar Sands democracy. The new ploy is to eliminate the subsidy Canadian political parties receive to keep our democracy out of the hands of oligarchical financiers.
Lies and pretense are the web and woof or Harper's political soul.

Obama's America
It's already becoming apparent from his choice of economic advisors that Obama's bipartisan healing message is really designed to close the open wounds in the American psyche as quickly as possible, the tragedy is, that he and the Democrats refuse to clean the wounds first, the corruption that was Bush-Cheney, and the crimes against their constitution and against humanity will be bandaged over in the name of national unity, which will do nothing to genuinely restore America's reputation, and which will eventually lead to the eruption of an even more virulent form of the neo-fascism that was Bush Cheney. But ain't that America. Obama is a reaction, not a revolution.

Canadians know what Harper is:
they knew he had no word of honour they could rely on. But they voted for him anyway, because just when Ontarions had begun to realize that Harper had defamed Dion the polls began recording a shift to a possible Liberal minority. But then CTV released the tape of Dion's seeming confusion about the economy when he gave his three-peat answer. And over the last weekend the master Harperers regained strength and along with the corporatist media chains - that are now collapsing around us - they then used the tape to allege that Dion didn't know what to do about the economy so how could be trusted. Dion's first answer, was to do 5 things first and quickly for the economy. 5 things for which Dion was then ridiculed by the Harperer and his war-rooms of Con dogs, so that the improbable but emerging Lib minority was bludgeoned out of existence. Mr. Harper has of course since done all five things that Dion said he would do the first time Dion answered the question. Harper has just done it more slowly, like a bewildered man, like an opportunist looking for a landing place, and looking - to me - for all the world like a man who has no clue about much and never really had, which is why he appeared to be somewhere else during the debates: I call it the Harper doze-daze, while for some, like all good TV-engineered Anywhere North Americans, without sense of history, amoral rather than immoral, his dispassion is both medium and message, to me much like reflections of the banality of an urbane demonic electromagnetic manageriat designed to keep them and him almost calm and almost cool in the face of their evolving terror, transfixed, dispossessed souls barely listening to what is being said, trying not to watch the beast slouching towards them, ready to say anything, or nothing.

Stephen Dilbert Harper
To me, this is the defining photo of Vice-President PM Stephen Dilbert Harper, born-again Just Society Trudeau-manian, waiting for the Big O to provide interesting times for him to live in.
VP-PM Harper Spins
the avoidance of protectionist measures and markets to keep the old economy turning it's stayed course, driven by open trader and investment regimes who V.P.H thinks should remain the "engine" for lowering world poverty, maintaining growth and providing employment... except the old school corporatists haven't lowered world poverty, the growth they maintain is cancerous, and the employment is becoming increasingly more like wage servitude managed by Dilbert. It's Tory democracy again, let the servants vote because they think their best interests are voting for their master's best interests.

Canada vs. Kyoto and the World
So now that Obama is intent on bringing America back from the edge of its neo-corporatist Bush League nightmare by moving the States back into the fold of Kyoto Accord, it looks like Canada and Harper's Tories are the only Bush League team left in the world.

Poor CTV
Gee Conservative media in this country are taking a beating these days, CanWest-Global- National Post is tanking and now CTV is facing falling ad revenues, could be the recession, could be their election biases.

Peter MacKay's word
Wow Peter MacKay, whose word is worthless as he proved when he betrayed David Orchard as is that of his equally word worthless boss Vice President Harper, wants the press and thus Canadians to take his word for what is going on in the closed door discussions at the Confest. Don't think so Peter.

Auto Industry incompetence
For over thirty years the "Big Three" did nothing about the need to produce energy- efficient cars: they killed the domestic auto industry in the process, and now like most corporate malfeasance it's about to be rewarded with bailouts "to protect jobs."
Capitalism is degenerate, much like in Plato's "Republic" where republican decay is a consequence of the pursuit of private property and profit. The destruction of community good, and the falsification of Common Sense by neo-corporatists is at the root of this degeneracy. The State is not the answer. The people are: government as credit unionism: chartered rights and freedoms in which there is no such thing a good corporate citizen, because corporations are not citizens but legal fictions: entities that pursue private property and profit at the expense of all else, especially actual citizens.

Harper still Bush League
The Cons are desperate for you to believe otherwise, but Vice President Harper continues to align his policies with the worst President ever. No need to re-regulate the markets, it's not the fault of greed and rapacious corporatism, it's just a market realignment, much like saying that rape isn't intentional, just a realignment of power. My guess is that Cheney and his friends did exceptionally well in the realignment of power in the wake of the financial collapse: the rich got richer, the middle class got poorer, and the poor, well it's best not to think about them, it's their fault for being poor anyway.

Right wing media collapse
The Can-West-Global-National Post media conglomerate that has spun neo-corporatist dogma into the minds of Canadians for the last several elections is beginning to fall apart: good riddance to bad rubbish. Now if only CTV starts biting the dust, then maybe we can escape the cycle of Lack of Common Sense Reaction that has dominated conservativism in this country for decades. The destruction of independent media is one of the reasons we get so little intelligent debate or investigative reporting, it's like shopping in a mall, same mall everywhere in the country, same corporations, same mindset, same dull plogging. Free enterprise Now !
Free Trade being revisited
It could be that the corporate free trade deal will soon be re-opened by Obama, which could result in the necessity of Canada re-thinking it's commitment to corporate globalism. A global Fair Trade deal is the best offense and a strong bout of localism is the best defense as far as I'm concerned: it's the only way to create genuine economic stability. In fact, the whole matter of national defense should be founded like the internet, on interconnected hubs of local self-sustaining power, with a global outreach where it require. Corporatism needs to die the death it was supposed to have died after its defeat in world war two.

The 2nd American Republic
It would appear that with the election of Barak Obama, America has entered the life cycle of the 2nd American Republic.
Money Votes Green
It looks like all those news agencies that ignored the economics of global warming so as to not disturb VP elect Stephen Harper's campaign against Dion, a man his Cons paid those selfsame news companies alot of money for air time and space so they too could benefit from character assassinating the Liberal leader: those "journalists" will now have to start reporting that Harper's and their con was a lie because it turns out that the economic argument really is in fact an environmental one, and that the banking crisis is puny compared to the economic consequences of what will happen to life as we know it on the planet if we don't do something about green house gas emissions much sooner than later.
Vice Pres. Harper keeps implementing Dion's Plan
The man without a clue keeps implementing Dion's rescue plan for the ecnonomy, including speeding up infrastructure spending.

Tar Sands
So if the US ends up relying on oil from the environmentally disastrous tar sands project, while pursuing an agenda of independence on foreign oil does that mean that Canada is not a foreign country but part of the domestic American market ? Harper appears to hope so.
Harper:northern US VP
There is an idea floating around that Harper is now free of George Bush as an albatross and thus free to become his own man. My guess is that Harper, while a conservative republican ideologue, is also a man in constant search of someone with pragmatic ideas since he has none of his own. Everything Harper is doing about the economy now was what Dion said he would do in the first answer he gave to CTV's garbled question. Harper is a follower, not a leader, and the politics he follows most are American politics. Once he followed Bush, now he is now following Obama. We need a PM who does not think of himself as the American VP of Canada.

Lib's galvanizing
But around what ? Above all I want a Liberal Party committed to enshrining water rights in the Charter.
Libs: take the train to BC
Of course there will a time problem for Libs who might try to travel by rail to BC for the Party convention in April, but for those who could take the time to ride the train - a specially chartered one even - that picked up delegates along the way, then the Party would actually enter its convention on a roll, having garnered media attention, delegate bonding, and lots of discussion. They could always fly home afterwards. A cross Canada trip together might just be a way of unifying the party, and who cares if Elizabeth May just used a train to campaign in, it was a good idea, trains are less expensive and have smaller environmental footprints than planes. It would certainly make history.

Harper pretends to care about the climate
Wow, it turns out that the reason Harper helped destroy climate change efforts wasn't because he thinks climate change is a socialist plot, but because there was no way Harper could have acted sooner, for the simple reason that George Bush wouldn't let the Cons act. Now that Obama's in, Harper is apparently greener than Elizabeth May and raring to act. Hypocrisy is as hypocrisy does.
Bush League America all but over
All that's left for Bush and Cheney to do now is to shred as much evidence of their malfeseance as they can before they hand over power on January 20 and the police show up at their door. I'm not an Obamaniac, but I'm certainly glad the neo-fascists have been routed to the south. The American empire is dead, and maybe they can create a functioning society now that the republicans have been outed. The world just became a safer place, without the uber-terrorists in the White House. I wish America luck, and perhaps someday I'll even be willing to cross the border again... someday.

Haperites utterly wrong on Warming
Stephen Harper, the only leader in the western world who doesn't want to believe in man made climate-change because it would piss off his bosses in the oil patch, and force him to act, could not be more wrong about man's role in global warming.

Lack of Common Sense Reactionaries

Politics is moot court
Perhaps that's why so many practitioners are lawyers: they've been trained to debate moot points in public. Our schools from Kindergarden on should teach moot point debating so that all Canadians will equally understand how to defend common law in the name of Commonwealth, from school yards to Parliament. (Blessings on the first generation of teachers who will be challenged both personally and institutionally by an empowered first generation of moot point debating graduates.)

Redistribution of Wealth
So far in Canada, not even someone on the right like Harper can get away with saying that you should avoid voting for an opponent because they want to redistribute wealth like McCain does daily. Many of the worlds problems are caused by the inequal distribution of wealth, but seemingly only in America can you still get poor people to vote for you by complaining that the Democrats want to give money to the poor by taking it from the rich. I've been poor most of my life, but it appears I have never been a dumb cracker.

Liberalism ?
The Charter of Rights and Freedoms is the culmination of 350 years of commonwealth constitutional evolution. Despised by Tories because it places the people above the House of Commons, it was nonetheless a revolutionary act signed by the Queen and Trudeau, which brought the three groups of Cromwell's age - the gentry, the levelers and the diggers onto an equal footing before the law. Tories like Mike Harris and Stephen Harper embrace the Cromwellian union of gentry and levelers, but like Cromwell, have no intention of letting the poor (the diggers) into the commonwealth, which is why Harris waged war on the poor, and Harper appeals to gentry and levelers but not to the poor. The liberals need to use the charter to distinguish themselves from the Tories, who are Disraeli conservatives: ie let the servants vote because they will think that their best interests are served by supporting their masters best interests.
Dion Supporters Fight on
They have created an online petition to demand the Party retain Dion despite the murmurings and mutterings of anonymous Liberals. (including the defrocked Stephen LeDrew who bad-mouthed Dion in the midst of the campaign and continues to serve as a CTV anti-Dion stooge despite having next to no stature in the Lib Party anymore.)

Dion
Becoming one of only two Liberal leaders to not become PM, he joins a company formerly consisting of Edward Blake. but since Blake was a man of considerable intelligence and insight, it's not bad company either.
Neo-Liberalism
Unfortunately for the liberals, they have been trapped by the demands of renewal between two conservative ideologies, one, neo-liberalism, which never was liberal, but was applied to the faux libertarian corporate agenda of Reagan and co, and which is actually neo-corporatism, which is the second, ie the revival of corporate socialism, in which the state surrenders most of its power to big business. Even the concept of re-branding belies the difficulties of renewal Liberalism, since branding is a marketing term that has nothing to do with intelligent discourse on political philosophy and everything to do with thinking like Big Business. The reality is that the business that government most resembles is a credit union. The NDP cannot escape it's own shadow corporatism because the only reason for labour unions is the corporate economy. Otherwise, the concept of cooperative commonwealth is the place to which they would go. My guess is only the Greens can philosophically go where corporatism isn't, which would be to free enterprise from the corporate economy, by supporting cooperative commonwealth. The tragic flaw in the corporate thought is that as legal entities they have "no conscience to bind them." which is why they can't sign affidavits in court. They should be chartered-challenged out of existence. The corporate economy cannot be liberalized. despite all the efforts of liberals since the New Deal. It can't be done. Capitalism requires exploitation, winners and losers, just like Harper said in the middle of the economic collapse, there are great deals to be had in disintegrating stock market. Unfortunately the deals aren't available to anyone but the rapacious. Capitalism has led inevitably to corporate socialism, and the answer isn't state socialism, the answer is enterprise freed from entities falsely known as corporate citizens, and government that treats its citizens, not like clients, but like member owners. Until then we go living in a Dilbert cartoon, where management has no answers.

Francophonie Neo-Corporatist Agenda Passes
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Seems like the leaders of the French speaking nations of the world have decided corporate capitalism isn't broken just because it's exploitative, unfair and predatorial. Someone has to lose and this time its Africa. Thousands and thousands of years ago it all began in Africa, so like all innovators they had it good there for awhile, kind of like the Alberta of ancient man.
It's the fatal flaw of corporate capitalism, it has no conscience to bind it to moral law or the pursuit of anything but profit, kind of like Harper's thinking on profiteering off the stock market crashes of late. There are good deals to be had in poor countries in the midst of global recessions.

Powell endorses Obama
It's official, citing the Republican drift to the right and McCain's excesses in the campaign, former Republican Secretary of State Colin Powell - the main who had to deliver Bush's lies about weapons of mass destruction to the American people before resigning in silence - has endorsed Barak Obama.
Canadian youth will change next election
Their parents and grandparents may have been frozen by fear over economic issues and so voted for Harper in this election, but Canada's youth just realized that if they don't want to have a future that involves choking to death while paying corporations for food and water priced for the highest bidders, then they are going to have to take over politics, take over the agenda, and ensure that the government goes to someone who does more than pose with children for photos to show what a warm and fuzzy dad he is. Harper's own children will be among those suffering what's to come. Well done grandparents of Canada, seldom before have adults failed the future so badly.
World Wildlfe Fund and Copenhagen
The WWF has a full page ad in Sat's Globe urging parliament to find all party unity on a common Canadian front for the environmental conference in Copenhagen in a year and a half. Nice gesture, but since the PM doesn't believe climate change is real and won't do anything to alienate his party's funding core in the Alberta oiligarcy, such unity will have to exclude the ruling party, which of course represents the minority of Canadians who don't believe in it either. The majority will lose again, but because environmental degradation is real whether Harper and his minority supporters believe in it or not, all Canadians for all time will suffer because of Harper's obstructionism. It's cold comfort to know that 'harpering' will become a verb for doing nothing in the face of an emergency.

Clinton praises Canadian banking
The former president praised the regulatory system underlying the Canadian banking system. A system which would not exist if the Tories had been in power when Chretien resisted Tory demands to deregulate the system. A fact which did not stop Stockwell Day from taking credit, despite the fact that he was the reformatory leader who had been pushing for deregulation.
Green Party infighting
The anger aimed at Elizabeth May for sending mixed messages about strategic voting is coming home to roost. My take on it is that the green movement is more important than the Green Party. If the Liberals, in a post Dion, right wing Liberal government of say Frank McKenna come to the next election pulling back from Dion's radical shift of the party across the green divide, then the green movement and the Green Party will become more closely one-and-the-same-thing and they will defeat Liberals and others and win seats. If the Liberals stay green, the Greens may suffer in the next election because whenever it happens, environmental degradation will be manifestly more obvious as events will have escalated beyond the tipping point of complete disaster. For now, the movement and the party are distinct. May was right to put the green movement ahead of the Green Party.
Harper will destroy himself
Because he is essentially a reactionary - ie because he has no vision beyond a tightly constructed ideology that ignores everything from climate science to the almost unanimous support from Canadian economists over a carbon tax, or from supporting a Bush League war because he defines himself as a conservative republican, to ignoring the suffering being felt by Canadians in the economic meltdown, Harper reacts to events, rather than responds to them. It's not native caution or pragmatism, it's the fact that he doesn't know what's going on in the world because he lives in a ideological bubble. A weakness that will cause him to destroy himself. He is not a leader, he's a follower, and not even a follower of circumstance, but of the chain of faulty ideas that underlie his thought. He thinks he's right, but mostly he proves to have been wrong. That's what will destroy him.

Dion does not have to go at all
As evidenced at Steve Valeriote's Far And Wide blog, there is an almost let-Elizabeth-May-into-the-debates movement rising up among Dion Liberals who are incensed at the party power brokers who hobbled Dion and undermined him every step of the way. The idea that an intelligent, decent man is being trashed by backroom wheelers and dealers who are leftovers from the broken Chretien-Martin factions, is particularly embittering for them. Chantal Hebert predicts that when Dion emerges from Stornaway there will be no one to guard his back, my guess is she's wrong. Dion has friends on the ground and in the blogosphere, and they're ready for a fight with those who betrayed Dion from the beginning of his leadership to now.

Harper fiddles with Senate while the planet burns
Always several steps behind, Harper wants to play with senate reform while the planet careens towards environmental meltdown.
Lowest Voter Turnout Ever
We need to seriously reconsider democracy is this country. With less than 60% of the electorate bothering to vote, and with the Tories and the Bloc winning a disproportionate number of seats relative to their share of the popular vote, it's no wonder people don't vote: their vote doesn't really count.
The Battle Begins Anew
The right wing in Canada was opposed by 62% of the electorate and we lost. Hard to fathom how this is called democracy. It's not, but it will be, because we will fight them every step of the way as surely as Canadians fought in the vanguard of the 8th Army and drove the fascists out of Italy. They are nestled in Alberta, oozing oil money, while capitalism collapses and the rise of neo-corporatism creates a union of state and corporate socialism, but it remains on the wrong side of history. And we will drive it from Canada one day.

Voters turn against future
Looks like we'll have to wait to prevent our children from choking to death.
Nova Central supports MacKay
Elizabeth May has lost to the man who destroyed Progressive Conservativism.
Testimonial From Steven Harper
"I didn't think selling my soul was a good idea at first, but then Dr. Faustus promised me he and his friends would make me PM. They kept their word and now I don't have to keep mine."
This message paid for by Sell Your Soul Inc. It's easy, it's effective, it's forever. Sell Your Soul Inc. Just cry out, we'll hear you.

$350 million and counting
Oh what a sound and prudent guy Harper is, it only cost the Canadian taxpayers $350 million plus the costs of the canceled by-election to bring us back to where we were, what a wise and beneficent ruler. Can we take it out of his salary since he broke his own election law ?
Canada Votes, or not
My guess is that if you're reading this you're probably a political junkie and fully intend on voting, but if for some reason you just happened to stray onto this post wondering whether to vote or not, then let me encourage you to do so. Tens of thousands of Canadians fought the corporatist agendas of Mussolini and Hitler and company to ensure you have a chance to vote, neo-corporatism has become much more warm and fuzzy for people like you and me (though not so warm and fuzzy for those in the Third World where they actively steal the water, land and lives of the poor.) We saw what neo-corporatism has done to America in the last eight years, it is quietly doing them same here, but again wearing cosy blue sweaters. The future depends on you standing up. Vote as if our children's lives depend on it, because they do. The ability of the planet to support human life has been damaged by humans and we need to fix that, sooner than later, vote for the environment. Or not.

Green Strategic versus Tactical Voting
Green Party supporters have always voted strategically, their long term goal was to keep voting Green, keep building the Party, election after election: that was and is and will be their strategy for winning the war on behalf of the environment. Environmental progressives, who might think of themselves as green while not necessarily voting Green in the last several decades have voted tactically in every election: "what's the best outcome I can get today." It might mean voting Green, Liberal or NDP. The only ones who just don't "get" the importance of doing something about the environment are the Tories, in part because they are financed by oil companies, pharmaceuticals, agribusiness and other corporatists. Their strategy is to remain the ruling class by empowering corporations over individuals, while espousing libertarian values as a kind of mask for Everyman. A strategy is a big picture plan, a tactic is a decision taken to live to fight another day.
Thanksgiving Dinner Political Talk Factor
Because this election is so important to the future of Canada's young people, whose parents will either vote for the future of their children, by voting for a green option or they will vote against their children's future by ignoring the pending ecological disaster and so vote Tory, in either case, this election may come down to how passionately Canada's young people will have argued with their parents about the need to act now, before it's too late.
Time for a Coup
So by Nik Nano's numbers Stephen Harper just wasted multi-millions of dollars for an election that may have proven un-necessary, leading to another Con minority, to another stalemated parliament while environmental degradation proceeds unchecked.
If it comes to that result - and I'm still not convinced it will - what we need is for the majority of parliamentarians representing the majority of Canadians to propose and pass a law restoring the custom of the Governor General, after the defeat of the government in a confidence motion, handing the government (cabinet posts and committee chairs)over to the leader of the opposition, and then to anyone else who might be able to form a government who can maintain the confidence of the House, and so have the four year law term serve the majority of Canadians. Once the majority passes a private member's bill to that end, Harper should be defeated in the first confidence motion, and then let his party tear him to pieces for his arrogance, bullying, and general incompetence.

Harper: the Confidence Man.
In a Toronto Sun interview they wrote "Harper, who is an economist, said it's tough to predict how long or how hard the global economic meltdown will impact Canadians, but he's "confident" he can guarantee the country won't slide into recession under his watch." Funny, he was also confident that joining the Bush League in Iraq was the right decision, confident that the War in Afghanistan could be won, confident that Canadians were just worried about the stock market and not about their homes and savings, confident that the rest of the economists in the country are wrong about the value of a carbon tax, confident that climate change science was a socialist plot. Oh he's a confident guy alright, the only problem is he is also wrong more often than not.

Flaherty a Lack Of Common Sense Hypocrite
Earlier this year the finance minister broke his own rules to hire a Harris hack.
Real Science is Opposed to Harper
VICTORIA – Three senior Canadian members of the 2007 Nobel Prize
winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are calling
on Elizabeth May to lead Greens to make the difference in more than 50
close ridings where the Conservatives are set to win with a fraction
of the expected Green Party vote. The leading Canadian climate
scientists making the call are Dr. Andrew Weaver from the University
of Victoria, Dr. William Peltier from the University of Toronto and
Dr. John Stone from Carleton University.

Of course CTVGlobeMedia endorsed Harper
They're Conservative partisans, they're not journalists. There's no objectivity there, never was. Which would be fine, if they explicitly stated their biases at the beginning of the campaign, we'd know they were nothing more than party organs. It's the pretense of real journalism that is offensive.
Let's Vote for this guy
"Harper, the son of a former Imperial Oil executive, once described the Kyoto Protocol to limit greenhouse gases as “a socialist scheme to suck money out of wealth-producing nations”. The Conservatives, like their Republican counterparts in the U.S., have refused to cap greenhouse-gas emissions to curb climate change. "
Harper says "Our responsibility is to make sure that all government spending is effective and gets value for taxpayers' money..." Does that include the many millions of dollars spent on this election that may well end up nowhere but where we were when we began ? What about the millions wasted debating and creating a four year term law that you violated ? What about the multi-millions wasted on the canceled by-elections ? Or the waste of federal court time costs while you prevent Elections Canada from examining the financial scam you used to win the last election ? Or the waste of RCMP resources you use to keep the unwashed from getting anywhere near you ?
Harper=Harris
The Lack of Common Sense Revolutionaries are in fact conservative republicans, led by a man who was wrong about Iraq, wrong about the economy and utterly and singularly wrong about the environment, he lied about the Chuck Cadman case, a case he will lose in court, he lied about the 'in and out scam' - a case he will also lose in court. He lied about his four year term law. The man has no integrity, he is a known bully, and his only principle is that he should be PM. Elect him and disaster will follow, because he lives on the wrong side of history. Wake up Canada.
They're going to kill Obama
Palin and McCain have so stoked the fires of hatred against Obama that there is little doubt in my mind that some Republican nutbar is going to murder Obama, and when they do the country is going to erupt into civil war that will make the aftermath of the Rodney King Affair seem like a community barbeque. America is about to degenerate into barbarism. And Canada is going to get sucked down into the vortex with them. The War Against Terror will turn into the Fear Wars that will pit neighbour against neighbour.
Ontario getting ready to screw the poor again
The Ontario middle class is about to betray the poor once again by voting for the Lack Of Common Sense Revolution Part 2. They just can't help themselves, when the going gets tough they trample the hopes of the underclasses. A vote for Harper is a vote against hope, a vote against the environment that will damn their own children to dying in their own wastes, a vote for a bully, a vote for Alberta-style corporate socialism. This is one on the meanest spirited, smallest minded, hardest-hearted creepy little men to ever lead a federal party.

Part time work at all time high
The employment rate just climbed, which would be really good news except the vast majority, or about 97,000 of the jobs are part time. which means 97,000 people have no benefits, and are earning less than the wage they would earn if they had full time jobs and got paid a full timer's hourly rate. It's Walmart economy, brought you by Stephen Harper.
O my God Dion is human !
So he entered one of those exhausted moments where the brain doesn't even know if a correctly spelled word is spelled correctly or not, we all do it. He just happened to do it front of cameras in the worst place, CTV: the Conservative Television Network. In issues of substance, Dion remains heads and shoulders about the Canadian spokesman for the Bush League, Harper, who spent two whole debates staring dumbly into space with a smirk on his face thinking about ways he would get back at all the other leaders and their supporters.

Sick of McCain's War Stories
He was the spoiled son and grandson of Admirals who crashed four jets, all them while hotdogging to impress his friends. Even when he was shot down in Vietnam he was on a civilian bombing raid. Some hero. He's not a maverick, he's rich brat who has turned into a doddering old men jonesing on his own war stories. His running mate is waiting for him to die so she can folksy her way into the white house and turn America into the laughing stock of the world. And Stephen Harper regards himself as one of the conservative republicans she represents. God help us all.
Harper says costs of Afghan mission not unknown
But if they were known to be at least 18 billion dollars why did he keep saying they were 8 billion unless he is a habitual liar and just can't help himself ?
Harper does a Mulroney
When in trouble bring out your Mom. Lyin' Brian did it back in the '80's when people were worried he would cut pensions. It's the family values thing I guess.

Harper's not so hidden agenda
While America had its eyes on the 700 billion bailout, 640 billion dollars was also channeled to Dick Cheney's friends in the military industrial complex. While Canadians slept in the middle of a June night this year, Harper made 20 year plans to spend $490 billion for this country's arms dealers and war speculators.
230 Canadian economists support carbon tax
Somehow this seems like a large news item that has dropped out the news cycle when it should remain as news.
Scientists weigh in Against Tories
So not only do most of the economists in Canada disagree with the Tories, so do Canada's climate scientists. Bad day for endorsements. I'm sure the Society for Jailing Minors will endorse Harper soon though.
Carbon Tax
Apparently Stephen Harper really is one of the only economists in Canada who thinks the carbon tax is a bad idea, must be one of those mavericks we hear so much about in the States.

It's Because the Blogosphere made TV
I suspect that Canadians started realizing that television wasn't telling them the whole story when news story after news story started being aired about events that happened because of activities in the blogosphere. I think Canadians went online in this election, and discovered that television wasn't telling them the whole truth.
And then they saw the truth for themselves in the debates. And now, the story is an increasingly internet savvy electorate.

Since Canadian suburbs are really just outposts of Anywhere North America, & serve as bastions of the continental "Me" generation who value their own security above that of others, it is not surprising that Harper's corporate socialist policies resound there far more than they do for urbanites, who have a much deeper sense of their symbiotic relations to their communities. It's why artists flee the banality of suburbs and settle city cores, because life is deeper & richer than it is in an environment defined by TV reality. Unfortunately for the suburbs, TV reality isn't real, & economic & environmental catastrophes have a way of wiping out self-obsessed security measures. That won't stop them from burying their heads in the sand this election and voting for corporate socialism.

Harper Wrong Again
He was wrong about Iraq, and he's wrong about the economy and the scale of the slide that's about to engulf us. So hey, let's make him PM so he can have the power to make wrong decisions that we will have to live with.
What hidden agenda cons ask
Again and again the Con bloggers insist there's no agenda except the desire to move Canada to the right and for Harper to rule as beneficently as only he can. The problem is, there remains the underlying fact that ideas put into practice become reality. That little move Canada to the right means something:just look at Alberta, it's a one party state wholly owned by American oil companies. The people of Alberta have become like the Farm Rabbits in Watership Down, fattened and well looked after. They talk a good line about freedom, but they live a corporate socialist existence of which I want no part.
Warren on Why Harper will win
It's a well written Kinsellan bout of melancholic nostalgia. An Albertan, & a Liberal, Warren Kinsella seems determined to fulfill the Reform Con desire to "let the eastern bastards freeze in the dark" as he meditates in his family's cold cabin. His views on Harper being the Everyman in this election & what a thoughtful man Stephen is reminds me of taking my son to the advance poll during the Guelph by-election & my pride in watching him vote for the first time in his life only to have his vote pissed on by Harper who canceled the by-elections because the Cons were going to lose. Sorry Warren, nice writing, sorry about your mother, and it's swell that Harper was nice to you after she died, but he deserves to go down hard and fast as far as I'm concerned.
Debate thoughts
Several days later, these are my thoughts. Loser: Global pollsters for promoting poll results done on only half the debate and released as 'who won' pronouncements. Winner: Elizabeth May, for pricking the hot air balloon sitting to her right whenever the smirking one made some fatuous remark. Winner: Stephane Dion, for blowing holes in Harper's phony portrait of him, and for articulating a clear and genuine alternative, despite all the Tory bloggers who pretended he couldn't speak English. Winner: Jack Layton for the funniest line: "Where's your platform, under your sweater ?" And for tormenting Harper with such doggedness. Winner: Steve Paikin who did a great job of moderating.

American whack jobs
Those people south of the border have no sense of reality, John McCain and his near lunatic VP think they can make Obama out to be elitist, despite the fact that McCain is married to an heiress and Obama grew up on food stamps. No wonder they think reality TV is real.
Will the middle class betray the poor again ?
With less than two weeks to go, the question remains, will the middle classes side with their own security and once again betray the poor, or will they dump Harper and his neocorporatist agenda and choose a new future, a more inclusive future. My guess is they will betray us again, because that's what they've done since 1645. They just love those Cromwellian ruling classes, the levellers want in, and they will always put the boots to the poor to ensure they themselves get in and stay in.

An Accounting
On behalf of the majority who voted against Mr. Harper last time I would like to thank the table of opposition leaders who applied fire to the feet of the PM.

Patronage by the ton a la Harper
148 pork barrel appointments by the master of hypocrisy
in the weeks leading up to his planned violation of his fixed term law.

Rock em sock em politicos
Wouldn't want to condone violence in the media or anything, but this is funny.
Harper's Agenda in his own context
Here is a copy of the speech Harper gave as the then vice-president of the National Citizens Coalition, to a June 1997 Montreal meeting of the Council for National Policy, a right-wing U.S. think tank. It's very clear and very explicit about where he stands and why.

Harper sees Dem Win in US
So we're getting set to re-elect a man who is moving the country backward, a man who represents everything but progressive thought, an unprincipled deregulating ideologue while the Americans are perched on an abyss of their own making, having given (or at least having let the Bush League steal) two mandates. Harper wasn't given a mandate by the Canadian people in the last election, since two thirds of Canadians voted against him, this time his poll numbers haven't climbed more than a few percentage points and no matter how smarmy or nasty he gets he can't get Canadians to trust him. Leadership the Cons call it.

Harper's privateering agenda
If this man gets a majority, his deeply embedded convictions that much of the Canadian government should be 'privatized' will come to pass. Of course, he doesn't mean private, what he means is corporatized. These conservatives are corporate socialists.
The idea that they are free enterprisers is absurd, corporations are not free enterprises, they are the antithesis of freedom, they destroy individual enterprise, they are legal fictions, they have no conscience to bind them to the law or to the public good. Much like Harper himself.

Okay Dion
The Jewish question of 9/11 which you hope to put behind you and so win the advance poll Judeo-fundamentalist vote is an equation for which I have much personal history which might seem to nuance me towards your sentiment, and yet I know too much about gangster capitalism and the alternative Jewish reality of Rothstein and Lansky but even more importantly Baron Rothschild and Averill Harriman via Prescott Bush to doubt that dark and even darker events actually occurred on 9/11 under Dick Cheney's Blackwater command. And I expect a Canadian Liberal to say so. Stand up and be counted Stephane. This is the real equation. The Jews are like all of us, corrupt and less corrupt individual by individual, and yes certainly, as a community they are nothing but a consequence of personal choices and so not guilty as a people of anything but self-preservation, a closing of ranks, a xenophobia of need for common cause, a flurry of events burying history in ash.
Ontarions !
If you put yet another faux Cromwellian, neo Mike Harris Lack of Common Sense Harperite majority into power I assure you that you will live to regret it as much as you still regret giving Harris a majority. You will shame yourselves again. But this will not be doublefold misery that will befall you but tenfold for betraying the poor, the children, the future, the planet and graciousness itself.
Dion and 9/11
So it's not okay to think that Dick Cheney and Blackwater were behind the sham that was the 9/11 attack on the trade towers in which a forty story tower, the third tower in the story, fell because of fires on several floors, the first building in the history of the world to fall down completely because of a few fires, sorry Dion, your gutless and wrong. Sorry Frank Valeriote, sorry Jake Williams, but even if you're about to lose to Gloria Kovack I won't vote for you now.

Harper: Women & Children
When Harped dissed his wife by dissing gala-going "fat cats" despite the fact that his wife is hostessing a gala next month in Ottawa then you have to ask, were we listening to policy or to a fight with his wife ? What if Steven's policies are all actually arguments he's having with his wife ? Whyever he dissed the arts & his wife in one sentence only God knows. As for his dissing the arts, PEI's economy is partly founded on tourism based on a book about an orphan, & on musical play about the same child, which is performed annually in the Confederation Centre for the Arts because Canadians are a cultured people, we are a stolid, but nonetheless Renaissance-loving people whose greatest export is our cooperative creation skills.

Got to love the Tory whack jobs
Bob's Rae's opponent for one had this to say about the horrendous knife killing on the bus in Manitoba on his now inaccessible blog.
"This is a perfect example of why we need concealed-carry handgun legislation in this country, so we can defend one another and deter horrible events such as this. But what are our politicians talking about? More government regulation and security."
And there's no hidden agenda.
"This is a perfect example of why we need concealed-carry handgun legislation in this country, so we can defend one another and deter horrible events such as this. But what are our politicians talking about? More government regulation and security."
And there's no hidden agenda.
No rest of the wicked
So not only has Bob Rae's Con riding opponent vanished from the blogosphere for a series of hard right rants but we get more Con nonsense about how the Cons' need a majority in order to clean up crime in Canada. Here's an idea, arrest Stephen Harper and the 'in and out' scammers, the Chuck Cadman scammers, the break the election law scam. Do you people never tire of hypocrisy or are you just so ammoral that it's all water off your duck backs ? Either way, asking Canadians for a law and order mandate is like asking Americans to believe George Bush obeys the constitution.
The real Reason Harper is Ahead
Canadians just aren't paying attention to the election according to a new poll. But here's another curious poll find, most Canadians know Harper has a hidden agenda, and most Canadians want a majority government, they just have no desire to give it to Harper. This election is nowhere near being over.

If only the press would do its job
The press is being pushed around by Harper & they're so afraid of the thug they just roll over. The Ottawa Citizen keeps plugging away via the Freedom of Information Act to keep the file open on the Tories illegal campaign financing from the last election, but there's not a trace of it elsewhere in the main stream media. Everything is just rosy with the Tories as far as the press is concerned. Harper even locks them on buses to keep them from doing their jobs & they don't complain.

Enviro Catch 22
It appears that the more the planet heats up due to global warming the more plant life begins to produce carbon dioxide rather than absorb it.
Harper in trouble in Quebec now
A trail of lies, a methodology of character assassination, a record of bullying the press & public officials, a string of scandals, a faltering economy, pockets full of oozing oil money, a minister who thinks listeria is funny, indifference to environmental degradation. It's all beginning to leave a bad taste in the mouth of voters including those in Quebec. Harper will be lucky if he hangs onto a minority. As things get worse, his natural propensity for malice will come to the fore and then even the minority will be gone and so will he.

The Turning has begun
As Harper's majority hopes begin to slip away, so does McCain's hope for beating Obama. The neo-corportatist agenda has too may moral and political holes in it to hold water long enough for voters. As the weeks pass the gap will widen and Harper will fall through the cracks, as will McCain.
Cheney and Blackwater revisited
That's the problem with the American right, they're up to so much evil and hypocrisy that its hard to tell the difference between what they do to ensure the success of their agenda and what others do because they hate America because of the neo-corporatist agenda that lays waste to their people.

Hypocrite
"'The other parties do not believe in tougher laws against criminals," Harper declared. "They will fight those laws, they will amend those laws, they will obstruct those laws." No Stephen, they will make you accountable for breaking them ! Have you no shame, no conscience at all, is your Christianity so shallow that you lack the guts to acknowledge your own malfeasance ? Now I know why Layton wants to debate you on TV so badly. He wants to nail you to the cross of your own hypocrisy and let you rot into history.
Here's something else we can force Harper to do
A government report on the cost of the war in Afghanistan will remain a secret unless there's an all party agreement to release it, the other leaders have already agreed, others will follow, but will Stephen - unless the Canadian people force him to agree ?
Harper Lead Slipping in Ontario
According to this, Ontario's swing ridings are starting to swing away from Tories, the "shift" has started.
Minister of Do Nothing for the Environment Baird
Got to love Billy Bob Baird, he's so concerned about oil sands pollution that he's come up with a plan to more of the same nothing.
McCain admits ads are a lie
And doesn't care. Did Obama call Palin a pig he was asked. No, he answers, and then goes on to imply that Obama did call her a pig. Gee, what a great way to slip around Rove's criticism, admit the ad is untrue, and then go on defending it. 70% of Europeans would vote for Obama, a huge majority of Canadians also prefer him. Only Americans can't see that if they vote for McSame, America's reputation will crash and burn.

Rove: McCain went 'too far' in ads
Master liar shows that Maverick McCain is a bigger liar than Rove himself. Harper hopes to do the McSame.
Harper Gets New Mouth
The press keeps reporting that Harper is vowing this that and the other thing. The reason you can believe him, is that he got a new mouth, because the last one kept lying so much, it was the old mouth that vowed not to steal from seniors' trust funds ... it was the old mouth that vowed no future Canadian government could call an election for political advantage ever again. It was the old mouth that told lie after lie. But it's alright Canadians, he's got a new mouth. This one doesn't lie. Honest.

Great Ally for Harper
"Ms. Palin runs an administration that puts a premium on loyalty and secrecy. The governor and her top officials sometimes use personal e-mail accounts for state business; dozens of e-mail messages obtained by The New York Times show that her staff members studied whether that could allow them to circumvent subpoenas seeking public records."
Haitian Tragedy Political
If Canada during Harper's watch hadn't helped the Bush League orchestrate a coup against a populist President and then replaced him with a puppet, the people of Haiti might have fared better after three hurricanes if only because they would have had a president who actually gave a damn about them. After the Franco-American coup that ousted him President in exile Aristide said "In overthrowing me, they cut down the tree of peace, but it will grow again, because its roots are well planted." I suspect hurricane Ike left them whole and ready to rise again.
Testimonal from Stephen Harper

Harper, Leadership you can rely on.
"Breaking the law is easier than I thought it would be," he says "at first it bothered me, but now I like it, and I'd like to keep doing it. If you give me a majority, I'll break all kinds of laws. Please, vote for me, vote for my friends."

PM on the Environment
"The tar sands project is an environment and anyone who says it isn't should look up the word," he says, "I did: it means surroundings. I'm a big supporter of surroundings, I like to surround myself with people who say yes to everything I want. I'm an environmentalist."
Biker's throw their support behind Harper
Bikers for Bernier are urging Canadians to vote Conservative.
United Centre To End Neo-Corporatism
In the 30's & 40's there was a united centre opposed to corporatist ideology. They won that battle at the end of WWII. Since the rise of neo-corporatism with Reagan the extreme right wingtip of the political bird has become entrenched in the global oilagarchy, which is intent on keeping the planet theirs to pillage. The place to unite the moderate left, the centre, & the moderate right is in parliament. If there's a minority, join forces to pass an opposition law restoring the Common's custom of resolving confidence issues by having the GG offer the cabinet to someone else from another party. Then bring down the Tories. Time to end corporatism for good.
Harper: servant of the North American Ratking
They use the press to send out the message that they are for smaller government and freer enterprise, so that natural selection can weed out the weak, but they are a Ratking, a circle of large rats so entwined in their own wastes and filth that they can't move from their positions and so use smaller rats like Harper to drive prey their way. Conservatives in North America use malice & character assassination to frighten voters, driving them to where the Ratking feeds.

The Times Have finally Changed !
Come gather 'round people\Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters\Around you have grown
And accept it that soon\You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you\Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'\Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come writers and critics\Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide\The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon\For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who\That it's namin'.
For the loser now\Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.
The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

Ken Morgan, Christian Con Answer This !
Answer this , answer why your PM buried a government commissioned report that asserts there would be NO harmful effects of a carbon tax. Enough of your right wing lies and denials and pretenses and malice. Apologize Con or let your curses fall back on your head. This little media-assisted Bush League coup attempt of Harper's via a campaign of character assasination is over ! Your party will be smashed into the oblivion it deserves and Harper will be known throughout history for selling his soul for power.
Harper Afraid to Debate the Environment
Seems like our unprincipled PM has decided not to take part in a French language debate solely on the environment. Bulldog Jack Layton implies that if he can't rip out Harper's testes what's the point of debating, he'll send a surrogate.
Neo-Corporatism not Neo-liberalism
Libertarian, anti-big government policies of Reagan et al conceal a neo-corporatist agenda. Corporatism was a conservative politic that informed pre-WWII governments, from Italy to Canada & beyond, in which Mussolini etc. used the state to 'balance' labour and business. After the defeat of fascism & the rise of liberal social democracy, neo-corporatism gained momentum as big business shifted from ownership by individuals into the modern corporate economy. Neo-corporatism no longer needs the state, & uses libertarian angst to destroy democracy. See Stephen Harper and the oiligarchy.
Hurricane Ike and the Aftermath
Nearly the size of Texas, Ike blasted the petrochemical heart of the military industrial complex & left a wake of ruin. Tens of thousands of people denied the reality of the danger & may or may not have survived. The Gulf coast - which will become increasingly battered as global warming heats up the oceans, & sends more hurricanes against those who live there - may sooner than later leave the region uninhabitable in hurricane season. But of course, global warming isn't real, there's no danger, just like Ike Eisenhauer's warning's about the military industrial complex was just empty posturing. The waters'll recede, Americans can put their heads back into the sand: everything will be okay again.

The American Press is Waking up
McCain and Palin's lies are being tolerated less and less in the American media, and when the worm turns there it will turn here, and when it does, the malice and lies of the unprincipled Harper campaign will finally, finally become fair game for Canadian media. Like the slanderous attack on Elizabeth May by Manning Institute fellow Steven Taylor, the darkness does not know the light. The lie is over. The extreme Right will soon be in ruins, and the centre, and the sensible right and the sensible left, will get on with saving the planet and ourselves. Wake up Canada, the revolution is here.
Part of my TVO comment posted here
"the Conservative Party brand was boot-stamped all over Steven Taylors simpyloveseggs YouTube posting. It is also clear from the TVO clip that May not only says "other politicians think Canadians are stupid", but she then addressed someone's un-amplified comment from the panel, because she turns her head away from the camera, looks down the line of seats, and quick as she is, says "And I fundamentally agree with that." meaning, whatever it was that one of the panelists said that was unheard by us."
May Apology to Blogger, Green lawyer "misunderstanding"
Again, from the bottom of the same TVO page as above, a company spokesperson posted this: "UPDATE: I have spoken with Green Party Press Secretary Camille Labchuk. She says the party intends to issue an apology to the blogger known as Buckdog, who had been threatened with a lawsuit by Green Party communications director John Bennett for posting a link to Stephen Taylor's YouTube video. Labchuk said the incident "was a misunderstanding on John Bennett's part about the way that YouTube works". The Greens do not intend to pursue any legal actions against any blogger, Labchuk says."
TV responds to May and the blogosphere over 'Stupid'
TVO confirms "that the audio of the clip in question is intact. As such, TVO is not and will not be pursuing legal action of any kind on this matter. All of this, though, may be a tempest in a teapot, because a few of us here at the shop have reviewed the tape in question and - although she says it a bit quickly - May does not seem to be saying "... I think Canadians are stupid..." at all, but rather " ... They think Canadians are stupid..." In the context of the conversation, the "they" in question would be other politicians who do not have the political will to consider a carbon tax. In the words of Daffy Duck, this whole incident may come down to a case of pronoun trouble."
Palin keeps on Lying
She says she never said climate change wasn't caused by humans. It's tough being politically correct, especially when you're politically and factually wrong.
Harper on Track to selling Cdn Assets
As a thank you to all his big business buddies (and their American and global allies) who are financing his campaign, Harper has announced more Mulroney-style sell-offs of Canadian commonwealth assets: Canada is open for business, just walk in and take what you want, and don't forget who gave you access to what otherwise belongs to the Canadian people.
Crown chartered-privateers with no more conscience to bind their behaviour than Harper's conscience binds him to his, are coming for everything in the cupboard.

The original tape is a discussion with Steve Paikin on TVO's The Agenda Here It's from a piece called The Debate: The Long Goodbye to GDP. The quote is at 38:32 - 39:01. It was first aired Feb 22 2007. Steve Taylor, a fellow at the Manning Institute can be contacted at email@stephentaylor.ca

"Stupid" YouTube kerfuffle 3
The person who first posted the edited excerpt 'May says Canadians are stupid' tape on YouTube was not the man being threatened with legal action, it was posted by someone using the name 'stimpyloveseggs'. It strikes me that since it is illegal to post material to YouTube that you don't own, then stimpyloveseggs is the person with the original tape, (which is just audio playing over a photo of May.) Stimpy must have the whole tape of whatever event it was. It would even more interesting to know what the unedited version says. So calling all computer geeks, who is stimpyloveseggs ?
Secondly: The Legal Action
The fact that May was not saying that Canadians are stupid, doesn't negate the fact that threatening to sue a blogger is bad politics. It's not on the same scale as Harper calling an illegal election, or the Tories illegal campaign spending scandal, or Bernier hanging out with his Hells Angels biker girlfriend and leaving important papers at her place, or the Chuck Cadman affair, or the fact that the Conservatives don't believe global warming is real, or even Peter McKay's betrayal of David Orchard. But it's bad optics suing a blogger for playing a real tape. She should have explained it away.
First Off: What is Elizabeth May saying in that 'stupid' tape ?
She said, when asked why there was so little political will for a carbon tax "that's because all other politicians are afraid to use the word tax, because they think Canadians are stupid." The murky point is that she then adds "And I fundamentally agree with that assessment." From my perspective, the last bit is the end of her breathless eagerness to answer the question. Ie. she fundamentally agrees with the assessment of the questioner, which is that there is no political will a for carbon tax. She is not saying that she fundamentally agrees that Canadians are stupid.
Canadien !
You, who this country is named after (and who gave rise to the greatest hockey team ever) know that Canada needs you: you know your nationhood is in your blood, and yet you also know that your country is in your land, in the communities that you carved out of the St, Lawrence Valley and into the Canadian Shield. The bounty of this land, the gift of water will remain between us, free to share, unless the Conservatives are allowed to commodify and bottle it for their corporate friends. Help us defend the land and the water, leave your nation in your blood this election, the country - the land, its water and its bounty is at stake.
McCain's Daughter Speaks her own truth
This woman, this child, is out of her mind, just like Dad. The worst thing is republican supporters don't even care that she said that "Only my family knows war. Period." Wake up Americans, you live in a lunatic asylum.

Happy Jewish New Year from Big Brother
Apparently Harper knows if you're Jewish or not.
"Tories under fire for Jewish New Year cards
The Conservative Party is facing questions about religious profiling after Jewish Canadians received cards from Stephen Harper wishing them a happy New Year.
The card featured (an) image of Stephen Harper sitting with his daughter Rachel, son Ben, and wife Laureen. (Good republican family values that Stephen.)

When is the press going to do its job ?
What's happening in the states is worse, since there really is no free press there anymore, they're all cowering in the dark. But it's coming to Canada, I stopped trusting the CBC when the Iraq war started, the only free press are on the net and if John McCain has his way it won't be online either. And if Harper gets back in there won't be a free press in Canada either.
66% supported May, hmm ?
Since approximately 66% of Canadian voters voted against Stephen Harper in the last election in favour of someone else, and since the 66% poll support for May's inclusion in the debate came from all parties. It can probably be assumed that since every party but the Tories believe in climate change, then not only is a majority government out of the question for Harper, but her call for green movement unity is likely to produce the most powerful dynamic in the election. ie "I insistently say a minority with Stephane Dion as prime minister, with enough Greens to keep us on track for positive change . . . is the honest answer. And I'd take enough Greens and NDPers, for that matter," said May."
Now Tories say May can be there
Again from the POST “If the NDP has decided to change its position, we would not stand alone,” said Stephen Harper’s chief spokesman, Kory Teneycke. “We’ve made our point.” But in a mischievous move, the Conservatives will try to convince the broadcast consortium that Defence Minister Peter MacKay also be included. MacKay is running against May in the Nova Scotia riding of Central Nova. The Liberals have a deal with the Greens not to run a candidate in the riding.' Yeah and let's have David Orchard there too.
Layton doesn't care if May's there or not !
National Post UPDATE 1:54 p.m.: CBC's Rosemary Barton has just reported that Layton, dogged by criticism, has changed his tune on May's inclusion in the televised leaders' debates: "As long as Stephen Harper is there, I don't care who goes."
Clark wants May in Debates
I never lost the respect for Joe Clark that he earned in South Africa, and now he's offering this to Canadians.
This election is getting interesting
Found this 'And she was outraged by Harper's prediction that she'll endorse Dion before the campaign is over. "I wonder how Mr. Harper can predict what I'm going to do, which I don't intend to do, and have that count against me," May fumed. "I know he does employ a clairvoyant who also is his stylist but unless he's relying on crystal balls, this is nonsense to say `I expect her to do something.' Ask me. I think Canadians are Going to Love Elizabeth May
"I consistently say a minority with Stephane Dion as prime minister, with enough Greens to keep us on track for positive change . . . is the honest answer. And I'd take enough Greens and NDPers, for that matter," said May.
"Now if Jack Layton's honest answer to his constituents is he prefers Stephen Harper as prime minister -- which is exactly how he is constructing his strategy -- then he ought to explain that to his base."
For the above here.

Across the border
John McCain is a total whack job in love with his own suffering, he keeps blundering around making the most ridiculous statements, like his anti-Washington change message, while his campaign is run by Bush League lobbyists, like his accusation that Obama was calling Palin a pig for repeating McCain's own comment about Hillary's health care plan being nothing more than lipstick on a pig. Then Sarah Palin's convention claim that she said "thanks but no thanks" to the 'bridge to nowhere' in Alaska, which is an out & out lie. Why do conservatives there & here think Jesus loves lies so much that if He could vote it would be for those who lie, then lie some more, & then lie again ?
